Hello all, from a sun-drenched Scotland.

Well it’s that interesting time of year when people fly off for sunnier climes, and those of us left behind are left watching the World Cup. Given that those of you who know me, will also understand why the World Cup is a time when I prefer to be indoors and not in crowds of people.

So, on to more important matters, we have fairly Tech-Ed oriented PB for you this time.

1. It’s Tech Ed time if you are in the US right now and as it happens there’s a heap of stuff going on including a new release of Visual Studio Team System for Database Developers.

2. So, WinFX becomes .NET Framework 3.0. I am sure this will please all those people who registered .dotnet in their website name. Read Soma’s blog to get savvy with the latest

3. So, just how do you tune that database for maximum efficiency? Well the Database tuning advisor goes a long way to helping. Here’s an article from DevX that will get you and your indexed columns moving.

4. While in the Tech-Ed mood, LINQ was announced at last years DevCon and we,ve heard more and more about it since. Code Magazines Markus Egger is here with a great article about what it does and why it’s going to be interesting.

5. New public beta’s of both Windows Vista and Office 12 are now available. So, if you want a reason to format your drive before the real versions come along, get it right here.

6. Microsoft have released Powertoys V1.0. One of these components will be of particular interest to Vbug members and that is MSBee. That enables VS2005 developers to target .NET Framework 1.1. The ServerSide.net article is here with all it’s links.

7. If you can’t be at Tech-Ed 2006, then visit the Virtual Tech-Ed at

8. Channel 9 is always a good place to hang out for the technology that’s yet to be. Here is some information on LINQ and ADO.NET entities and how the ADO.NET stack is going to change.

9. So, are you using the SQL CLR? Yes, or not too sure where to start or maybe not sure what it can do for you? Well maybe it’s worth taking a look at these webcasts from Microsoft.

10. On the SQL Server 2005 subject, those of you who didn’t attend Kimberley Tripps excellent 10 part webcast series can get them on demand here and now at

Well, I guess that wraps us up for June. June is a funny month, usually the weather is good, but it’s the time of year when companies start booking their Christmas parties. I get the prize for being the first person to mention Christmas to you. Good coding to you all and see you in a couple of months.

Regards

Geoff Hirst (now you understand the World Cup gag!)
