Hi Coders,

Well here we are almost in the summer of 05. The sun is shining and the temperatures are in the 20's. Enough of the banter, we have a packed property bag for you and we should really get right down to it.

DotNetRocks

There have been some excellent episodes of dotnetrocks recently. In particular one guest who is always a favourite is Kimberly Tripp, giving the lowdown on SQL Server 2005. Along with that Brian Randell has given an excellent in-depth show on working with Virtual PC. Jackie Goldstein gave an in-depth talk on .net and didn't cover half of what he wanted, so he's coming back on real soon. So, check it out www.dotnetrocks.com
DotNetFreaks.com
For all you ASP.net bods out there. This site is teeming with ASP stuff. Controls, tutorials the lot. Take a look. www.dotnetfreaks.com
The .net show
This is a Microsoft studio's production and recently they made their 50th episode. This includes an interview with Bill Gates, covering where the windows platform is going. The latest episode, is about 64 Bit Windows. We are all going to be using it at some point in time, so find out now what it's all about. http://msdn.microsoft.com/theshow/
The Code Room
Now I had some thoughts on the first episode of The Code Room, but I figured that I should really keep them to myself. However, the Code Room episode 2 has a new project head. Rory Blyth, the man who hosted dotnetrocks before Richard Campbell stepped in, is now at the helm and this episode where 4 experts in different areas of mobile technology are given a mean task to accomplish in a few hours is well worth watching. http://shrinkster.com/5vp
Aloha Hawaii
We haven't yet got Whidbey, never mind Orcas, but already Microsoft is thinking about the version of vs.net after that. Hawaii is its name and it is already quite apparent this will be the version to really grab the next version of windows by the 'longhorns'. There is some info right here. http://shrinkster.com/5vq
AbstractVB
AbstractVB, is a great site, full of useful code, ideas and tips. I've not mentioned it in Propertybag for a while. So, if you haven't been there before take a look at: http://abstractvb.com/
visualbasic.about.com
Here's an interesting site, and it's packed with good stuff. Are you still working with VB6 waiting, wondering, contemplating the jump to .net? If so, there are heaps of good stuff at this site that will get you started. Take a look at http://shrinkster.com/5vr
Function X
This is a new site that I haven't seen before. FunctionX has something for everyone, VB, ASP.NET, CSharp and C++. FunctionX are an e-book publisher and have some interesting titles on C# and C++. The examples shown have screen/dialog shots so you can compare what should be happening, with what is happening on your screen. Definately one to add to those browser favourites. See a sample article on Exception handling - http://shrinkster.com/5vs
Essential XML Quick Reference
So, you need a reference article for XML and associated technologies? How about having what is probably the best XML reference book, in a 400+ page PDF? Essential XML Quick Reference from Addison-Wesley originally published under the developmentor label is a great book. It's here right now in a free pdf download, just for you. Check out http://shrinkster.com/5vt
www.vbdotnetheaven.com
Another website blast from the past. vbdotnetheaven is a treasure chest of useful coding bitz. www.vbdotnetheaven.com
CoderForm
This is a new GUI Component for Vs.net from Fivetuple. The product allows easy design of user interfaces using code rather than the form editor. There are many advantages to this method and you can read all about Coderform and download the latest beta here http://www.fivetuple.com

So, that's us until the Autumn, as always comments, tips, gripes and general rants to the usual address. geoff.hirst@vbug.co.uk

See you all in September. Unless I see you at Tech-Ed 2005 in Amsterdam.
