Topic: VBUG London: Real World MVC Architectures
Overview: ********** NOTE: Anteo Group have relocated. New venue details below ********** Real World MVC Architectures So you have drunk the kool aid and decided that MVC applications are a better way to build your web applications, kissed goodbye to a page based architecture and learned to love JQuery. From here on everything is just gravy, right? As ever with would-be silver bullets you have bought off one set of problems but are now at risk from another set. In this presentation Ian Cooper will talk about his experience from building MVC applications for the last 2 years, discussing gotchas like the Fat Controller and God Service, and asking what a Front Controller is and why it might mean you fall in love with the command pattern. Ian is a passionate exponent of the benefits of OO and Agile. He is test-infected and contagious. When he is not writing C# code he looks after the London .NET user group - http://www.dnug.org.uk - which he founded. VBUG Bracknell: Test Driven Development to save, time, money and your sanity
Date: Mon 1 March to Mon 1 March 2010
Topic: Test Driven Development to save, time, money and your sanity
Overview: Originally, this meeting was scheduled for January but was postponed due to snow. Richard Hopkin has kindly rescheduled his Test Driven Development session for March and we look forward to seeing him. How many bugs does your software have? How much time will it take you to fix those bugs? The normal answer to these questions is many and forever, that is unless you are practicing Test Driven Development. NxtGenUG Oxford coordinator Richard Hopton walks through what it is, some guidelines to follow, how to get started implementing it in new projects as well as tips to help apply these same techniques to existing applications. Richard Hopton started his long-term relationship with development at the tender age of 8 when writing text adventure games on the BBC at school, followed by several years of dabbling in Amiga games and demos. He moved onto writing applications in Delphi until 2008 when C# became his language of choice, and .NET his new spiritual home. Richard is a regional coordinator for NxtGenUG Oxford and works as a development team leader for SalesAchiever, an independent software company specialising in producing a market leading industry-specific CRM solution written in C# and WPF.

VBUG Bristol: Streamline your Web Development with ASP.NET MVC
Date: Wed 31 March to Wed 31 March 2010
Topic: Streamline your Web Development with ASP.NET MVC
Overview: Microsoft's MVC-based web development framework has stirred up the .NET world - but would you want to use it? What's wrong with classic ASP.NET, and how does MVC do better or worse? In this session we build a small application, comparing the development experience with classic ASP.NET. See MVC architecture, clean URLs, domain-driven design (DDD), tight HTML, and simple ajax at work. We'll also make use of the new features coming soon in ASP.NET MVC v2, including strongly-typed UI templating and model validation. Steven Sanderson is an independent software developer living and working in Bristol, UK. He's sometimes an author or a presenter, but is mainly a programmer with interests in web development, security, and agile principles and practices. Steve recently wrote Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework (Apress), the best selling and top rated ASP.NET MVC book on Amazon. He's a member of ASPInsiders, and regularly blogs and releases open-source code at http://blog.stevensanderson.com/
