VBUG Bristol: Getting started on AJAX with jQuery
Date: Wed 17 February to Wed 17 February 2010
Topic: Getting started on AJAX with jQuery with George Adamson
Overview: An introduction to AJAX and it's benefits; how to use jQuery to handle your AJAX; 'hijaxing' and progressive enhancement with jQuery and AJAX. We'll work through a bunch of examples to post and get data from various sources.
The mere mention of jQuery gets George all enthused. He's a contract front-end web developer who loves Usability, UX, IxD, web dev and full on JS. He has spent many years working on accessible, standards compliant sites with progressive enhancement and unobtrusive javascript. Recent works include sites and web apps for BBC Doctor Who and other BBC sites, Nationwide, Waterstones, HMV, and Comet Electricals, with bucketloads of jQuery.
You can read George's blog on web development and usability at http://blog.softwareunity.com/ and his tweets may be followed at http://twitter.com/GeorgeAdamson.

VBUG Bristol: Streamline your Web Development with ASP.NET MVC
Date: Wed 31 March to Wed 31 March 2010
Topic: Streamline your Web Development with ASP.NET MVC
Overview: Microsoft's MVC-based web development framework has stirred up the .NET world - but would you want to use it? What's wrong with classic ASP.NET, and how does MVC do better or worse? In this session we build a small application, comparing the development experience with classic ASP.NET. See MVC architecture, clean URLs, domain-driven design (DDD), tight HTML, and simple ajax at work. We'll also make use of the new features coming soon in ASP.NET MVC v2, including strongly-typed UI templating and model validation.
